Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 receives top marks from AV-Comparatives
Thursday, 29 July 2010 16:14

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that the AV-Comparatives laboratory has awarded Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 the highest mark possible in tests designed to analyze the product’s proactive defense capabilities.

Experts from the authoritative Austrian test lab analyzed the performance of twenty of the most popular computer security products from leading vendors. The test focused on the quality of proactive defense provided by each product during on-demand scans.

All of the solutions were tested using out-of-date signature databases and made active use of static heuristics and extended signatures relating to malware families. The security products were pitted against a set of over 27,000 brand new malware samples that had been detected after the antivirus databases were last updated. This test was designed to assess each solution’s ability to defend a user’s PC from new threats for which individual signatures have not yet been released.

NetApp integrates with Microsoft Toolkit to enable Service Providers to take SMBs to the cloud
Tuesday, 13 July 2010 15:47

New Professional Service Offerings and Design Guidance help Service Providers deliver additional value to SMBs

(NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced enhanced integration with Microsoft to deliver enterprise-class data protection solutions to cloud service providers by leveraging the Microsoft Dynamic Data Center Toolkit for Hosters. Although enterprise-class data protection has historically been too expensive for most small- and medium-size businesses (SMBs) to implement themselves, NetApp and Microsoft now enable service providers to offer enterprise-class data protection to their SMB customers. Additionally, NetApp announced the availability of new professional service offerings and additional resources and guidance for service providers to build a variety of enterprise-class cloud services.

“SMB customers have many of the same disaster recovery and business continuity requirements as large enterprise organizations, but often times don’t have the necessary skill set or budget needed to achieve the desired results,” said Laura DuBois, program vice president, Storage Software and Solutions, IDC. “Solutions that address this gap by providing enterprise-level data protection along with the support and guidance needed to deploy will be integral in helping SMBs realize the true benefits of a cloud infrastructure.”

New consulting offering from IDS Scheer enables agile supply chain management
Monday, 12 July 2010 17:37

A new consulting offering from IDS Scheer AG, a Software AG company, helps businesses transition quickly to agile supply chain management (SCM). This enables them to react rapidly to changes in the market and increase their liquidity without endangering production or delivery capabilities. The solution is based on a four-step method that determines the best alignment of disposition parameters. Customers receive proposals for improving their supply chain within three weeks.

In this new offering, IDS Scheer combines its process knowledge in the area of supply chain management with its data analysis expertise. The method starts with an in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis of relevant SCM data and processes, the identification of forecasting and disposition parameters that impact a company's inventory levels, and determining the optimal parameter values and processes.

Based on that information, IDS Scheer then prepares proposals for improving the key SCM performance indicators and their accompanying processes. Potential areas for optimization and measures are then discussed with the customer's various departments and captured in an implementation plan that ensures the measures are actually executed.

In the final step, IDS Scheer collaborates with the business to introduce a monitoring system that enables the company to compare the defined parameters and their alignment with real-world conditions. Should the economic framework data change, the company can quickly adjust its supply chain by realigning any relevant SCM parameters to suit the new situation.

HP Connects Distributed Mobile Workforces with Microsoft Communications Server “14”
Monday, 05 April 2010 12:04

HP today announced the expansion of its unified communications and collaboration portfolio with offerings optimized for Microsoft Communications Server “14,” the next version of Microsoft’s unified communications platform.  The new offerings help clients improve productivity and lower costs by consolidating infrastructure, devices and management tools.

Communication modes, technologies and devices are multiplying within organizations, often in isolation from each other and critical business operations. This creates a communications environment that slows decision-making, spends valuable IT resources on maintenance and drives up operations costs. The new HP offerings enable clients to improve business output and reduce travel, telecom and IT operating costs by integrating with Microsoft Communications Server “14.”

Building on the unified communications and collaboration initiative between HP and Microsoft announced in May 2009, the offerings include:
— The HP Survivable Branch Communication zl Module that reduces IT infrastructure at remote branch offices and extends the business productivity and reliability of Communications Server “14.” It combines Microsoft Communications Server “14” and HP ProCurve software within HP ProCurve Switch 8200zl and 5400zl series products.
— Four existing PC models designed to provide a rich business-grade voice and video user experience at a lower total cost of ownership are now tested and qualified as optimized for unified communications by Microsoft.
